It was the night before Thanksgiving Day here in the US and two of my three sons were present in my kitchen. Jeremy, a 30 year-old mechanical engineer who lives in San Francisco was nibbling on some goldfish crackers and encouraging his younger brother Jay, 20 to choose a worthy goal.
Jay is the front man for the Santa Cruz hardcore band, works part-time in a trendy retail store in downtown Santa Cruz, and lives on his own. They are two brothers cut from different cloth, yet incredibly close and supportive of one another.
The Value of Worthy Goals
When I chose to create MinimalistBusinessAcademy.com, my goal was to create a global resource to help and encourage others succeed in their deepest work. That was my initial thought. I had no other goal as it seems pretty daunting.
And yet, opportunities to provide much more than encouragement has already come my way in the brief time MBA has been live.
- I've attracted a cadre of supportive and engaged writers all seeking the life of independence and freedom
- I've begun working on a book and course designed to hep these incredible people transition from corporate captive to digital nomad
- I've started a Facebook page to further the reach of the Digital Nomads
- Im outlining a podcast and a video series for Digital Nomads
It all began with a worthy goal.
Worthy Goals are the Goals that Open Doors of Possibility
When you set your intention on a worthy goal, the Universe mysteriously has your back. I've experienced this many times in my life.
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then [the Universe] moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”
This quote is attributed to the Scottish explorer, W.H. Murray. I believe it is a worthy accolade to the way that opportunities and favorable events occur when we set our intentions on a worthy goal.
Why This Matters
You may have held a dream, a goal, or an ambition to lead the life of a writer. Perhaps you've never really committed to that dream like Murray suggests above. For whatever reason, you've been hesitant.
Hesitancy is the enemy of progress. It's the hobgoblin of timid intention. It will forever hold you back.
If you dream of living a life of supporting yourself as a writer, a digital nomad, a home-based writer, it doesn't really matter what form your life takes....you must commit.
Committing to your dream and setting your intention on a worthy goal will open all kinds of opportunity and fortunate events in your favor.
I encourage you to begin today.
